The high Alps rise south of Vienna to over 2000 metres. Beautiful, flower filled Alpine meadows and nearby peaks host typical alpine species that include Golden Eagle, Alpine Accentor, Water Pipit and sometimes White-winged Snowfinch, Alpine Chough and Rock Ptarmigan or a Wallcreeper on the limestone cliffs. Here, the forests are mostly coniferous and speciality species might include Firecrest or Spotted Nutcracker, as well as woodpeckers and perhaps owls. The terrain is mostly easy though by the nature of the itinerary there will be some walking at altitude on occasionally steeper paths but nothing too strenuous and you can expect to walk approximately five kilometres every day. Your tour leaders will be Martin Hrouzek and Neil Donaghy should numbers dictate. You can expect to see in the region of one hundred and twenty five species on this exciting new addition to our portfolio
