Introduction

The term South India demarcates a geographical region comprising of the Southern Part of the Great Indian peninsula. It comprises the states of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu. In this region our primary focus is on the southern part of The Western Ghats, which runs astride Karnataka and Kerala with a portion of Tamil Nadu in between. This range of hills rise from the West coast to an altitude of up to 2500 m. Bordered by the Indian Ocean and the Cardamom Hills, Kerala is a fertile paradise that describes itself as God’s Own Country. This tropical paradise is made up of surprisingly lush, but tranquil backwaters and our tour will take us into some of the most spectacular wilderness areas in the state including montane rain forests as well as the coastal strip. The walks are easy and moderate, food is enjoyable with a range of coconut based curries to western breakfast. Your accommodation will be jungle lodges and some nights in a colonial palace hotel. Your tour leader will be Eldhose and you can expect to see approximately 250 species.
