Introduction

Citrine Wagtail

Wild flower meadows, quiet backwaters, extensive marshlands and ancient forests; not the first image that springs to mind when you think of Poland, but you can expect to encounter all of these habitats on this holiday to one of Europe’s premier bird watching locations. Our tour takes us from the historical city of Warsaw to the marshes at Biebrza, and the fairytale like forest at Bialowieza. This is the largest remaining remnant of the primeval forest that once covered most of Europe and is a wonderful place to relax amongst a wealth of wildlife that with good fortune could include Bison, Pine Marten, Wolf and Deer along with a wonderful array of birds. Carpets of wildflowers and meandering rivers stretch as far as the eye can see - well over the border into Belarus, providing a wonderfully serene backdrop for your stay in these special areas. The way of life is a reminder of a gentler time, and traditional farming methods that do so much to enhance the area for nature are still much in evidence. Your tour leader will be Neil Donaghy or Geri Thomas, who will be assisted by local guides. The walking is mostly on good paths, though sometimes muddy and average three or four miles a day. You can expect to see approximately 150 species.
