Introduction

Crab Plovers

Crystal blue waters, backed by miles of timeless desert, year round sunshine, modern cities and friendly, welcoming people, all promise to add to the enjoyment, on this wonderful nine night holiday to one of the jewels of the Middle East on our Arabian Adventure. We will visit a variety of habitats that should ensure an excellent selection of species that use the region for winter quarters or are the first of the spring migrants passing through. Some of these species can be exceptionally difficult to encounter elsewhere in the Western Palearctic. Crab Plover, Red-wattled and White-tailed Lapwings, Sociable Plover, Little Green Bee-eater, Sand Partridge, Hooded and Red-tailed Wheatears, Liechtenstein’s and Chestnut-bellied Sandgrouse, Persian Shearwater, Socotra Cormorant, Indian Roller, Swift, White-cheeked and Lesser Crested Terns, Sooty Gull, Syke’s Warbler, Grey Hypocolius, Black-crowned Finch Lark and Arabian Babbler all add up to make a fine selection of much wanted birds on this our acclaimed Arabian Adventure! The terrain is mostly easy, though of course after a cool morning start it will warm up considerably in the afternoon even at time of year. You can expect to walk approximately one or two kilometres per day and can expect to see between 150 and 175 species. Please note that alcohol is fairly freely available in Dubai, but may not be in other Emirates. Your tour leader Neil Tovey has outstanding knowledge of the region and his friendly, laid back style is popular among participants. The terrain is easy and you can expect to see 175 -200 species.
