Kazakhstan – the very sound of the word conjures up images of a wild and exotic land. This former Soviet republic lying on The Great Silk Road and the Caspian Sea has borders with Russia and China, amongst others, and consequently has a large array of species that are much wanted by western birders. We will visit a wide range of habitats including vast arid steppes, desert, huge freshwater and saline lakes and alpine meadows. We will also spend time in the shadow the magnificent Tien- Shan Mountains, where we bird the juniper-covered slopes at an altitude of 2500 metres. Our accommodation will range from western type hotels to nights under the stars in traditional desert camps. Terrain will vary and a reasonable level of physical fitness is required to undertake this tour. This new reviseditinerary is highly recommended to enable you to get the most out of your holiday to this fabulous birding destination. Your guides will be highly renowned local guide Dr. Svetlana Annenkova and Neil Donaghy. You can expect to see approximately 225 species.
